"Under the Rainbow"
16"x24"
Edition of 25 signed originals
Printed on fine art rag paper with archival inks.
This is a handpainted monochrome (Black & White) image of a tree outside a home along a street in Colchester, Vermont. Michael Hutchings and I were walking our dogs together when I was visiting his family there when we came upon this tree filled with a host of unique bird houses.
I was enchanted, but when I tried to capture the image on paper, first in the actual colors of the tree and its ornamentation and then in straight black and white, the image just did not convey the magical feeling that I had when I first saw it.
I think it was because what I saw was not a tree with funny birdhouses and ornaments but, rather, a cacophony of sensual pleasure. A blending of sight, sound and spirit; Sunshine pouring through the tree, warming the early morning air; color, enhanced by the birdhouses but not because of their unique individual appearance but because they were a delivery system for beautiful splashes of color, a pallet of color, surreal brushstrokes set against the tapestry of leaves and branches.
The final image is scanned and then printed in a limited edition of 25 signed originals on fine art museum quality rag paper with archival inks, including a certificate of authenticity.
